Faith That Works Series
Faith Doesn't Fill the Hungry
Real Faith Meets Real Needs
Sunday July 20, 2025 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
James 2:15-17
Main Message: Faith is not just what we believe; it's what we do. Real faith shows up when we serve others, especially the hungry, the hurting, and the overlooked.
Key Verse: James 2:15-17
"If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, 'Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,' but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."
Big Idea: Real faith doesn't just say something-it does something.
It meets real needs. It puts love into action. It shows up with a meal, with a hand, with compassion. Jesus sees our faith in how we serve the least among us.
- 1. Hunger has a Name
- 2. Hope has a Name
- 3. Faith has a Name
Main Points:
- Real faith sees people's needs, not just their problems. It looks with compassion, not judgment. (Matthew 25:35, James 2:15-16)
- Words (Faith) without action are empty. Faith is proven not by what we say but by what we do. (James 2:17)
- Serving the hungry, the stranger, and the poor is serving Christ Himself. (Matthew 25:40)
- Real faith often requires time, resources, and sacrifice-it's not always convenient, but it's always worth it. (Isaiah 58:7, James 1:27)
Group Discussion Questions:
- 1. What's the difference between seeing a need and meeting a need? Why do we sometimes stop at awareness?
- 2. Read James 2:15-17. Why do you think James connects real faith to meeting physical needs?
- 3. How do you respond to Jesus' words in Matthew 25:40 ("You did it to Me")? What does that say about our everyday service?
- 4. Share a time when someone met a real need in your life. How did that reflect Christ to you?
- 5. What is one specific, practical way your group can live out this message this week?
